Agree with the points you make but, nonetheless, what Martin said was true. Perhaps making a statement like that in public will focus our owners' minds and get them to loosen the purse strings a little. However, prospective future managers with any ambition will be very wary about coming to us after reading that. We'll get saddled with those seeking any job in order to get a contract they can cash in on at some point.

IMO based on the flux of changes during close season, what transpired in January was the outward rendering of the planning and changes going on behind the scenes. Madness was not a part of those plans and current and soon to be leadership thought it best not to indulge millions on a person they had no confidence in. Madness became aware of this either directly or indirectly ... review his video pressers immediately after the transfer window closed. He was a man who'd been suitably recalibrated and was still processing the ramifications. The rest of the season was Madness trying to prove his worth to new buyers.

This is just bizarre from Martin, it seems like Potter, Cooper and Martin all hold some kind of grudge with Swansea. I can understand it, but speaking publicly like that is unprofessional. They gave him a chance and as you said they bought Fisher and Darling. They signed a few players this season with new investments. Hope they never sell a player to a Martin managed team. Why should they sell Wood to him?

He was referring to his time with us I guess and not the present.
He is a fool. When he took over at Swansea in 2021/22, we signed 14 players, which is more than Soton signed in this transfer window (8 players). And in this transfer window we signed 13 players, which is again more than Soton.

Swansea transfers in 2021/22:

Here are the Southampton signings in this transfer window:

Soton.png

They (over)paid £11.5 million for a kid from Manchester City U21 who played 27 minutes of PL football and £8.5 million for striker Ross Stewart who was Sunderland's top scorer in League 1. The latter is an excellent signing. The rest are free agents and loan signings. He had Downes and Manning at Swansea, so nothing to brag about.

Fraser's a decent pickup at this level, but thank you for demonstrating just how much BS Martin talks sometimes. He's always looking to blame someone or something else, the subtext behind his comment being "I only didn't do very well because the club didn't buy me any players". Has anyone ever failed upwards as well as Martin? An underwhelming mid-table finish with MK Dons brings him to Swansea, and two more underwhelming mid-table finishes takes him to Southampton. What's next? Saints miss the playoffs and Man United come calling?
