LEON GONE!!

Shock news from the Liberty this morning as Leon announces that he's leaving the club with immediate affect. Seems there's no acrimony as Leon wants more time to be with his family. That may well be the case or it might just be a soundbite. Who knows? What I do know is that our footballing input behind the scenes will be greatly reduced and we can ill afford that. I'm not suggesting any conspiracy theories here but could it be that Leon has been frustrated with the kind of football that's been served up despite his best efforts? Or is this a cost cutting exercise? My hope is that the little man really is just looking for more time with his family.

Whatever, Leon has given us years of great service and deserves our recognition and thanks for that. "Legend" is an over-used word in football but I think that Leon has earned that accolade during his time with the Swans and I'm sure that you will all join me in wishing him and his family every success and happiness in the future. Story here:
Leon Britton quits Swansea City in announcement days before season restarts

I think its probably frustration at the situation the club is in , ie they have to sell talent to survive and the fact that his input probably falls on deaf ears or maybe he's just pissed off with the greedy bastards at the club only deferring their salaries !

Leaving the club with immediate effect, doesn't seem to be what one would expect from him. He's had three months of pretty much doing nothing which one would have thought given him a lot of thinking time on his future. But now when his services are required with the continuation of the league program imminent he's called it a day, doesn't make sense, something has gone wrong. My guess is that some two people are not seeing eye to eye, who, what? is anyones guess, but whoever or whatever he's had enough of it.

Agreed, this is an odd time for a decision that renders the Club with no significant connection to the past except for Curt, who is supposedly retired, and Tate who is not exactly the bastion of sleek passing football. Nor any football expertise but Andy Pandy and he's not demonstrated anything more than you might expect on the inside of a bubble gum wrapper.

How much more time can a guy want with his family FFS. If he's so flush he doesn't need to work then fine; but, can he be that flush and does the Club really demand more of his time than 40 a week all be it not on a conventional 9 to 5.

This is the end. Can it possibly get any worse from here. The next acid test is the player exodus at the end of July ... what players out of contract scarper and what players under contract seek transfers. We though it was bad during Monk's first close season ... we may have worse to come.

I 'liked' your post @Yankee_Jack not for the content, which is totally relevant, but for the good though disturbing points it raised. How demanding of Leon's time is the job as you say? Our footballing DNA is being eroded at a rate of knots with the demise of Toshack and Richards; Curt stepping back and now Leon out of the picture. I really wish our owners would piss off and do one.

Two things:

1) This is the day last year that the Club hired Andy Pandy .... kick to the balls right there.

2) “I’m obviously disappointed to leave,’’ ... is not the quote of somebody who has thought about his personal best interest and decided it lies else where. He wouldn't be disappointed to leave; he would be optimistic for his future / next steps and opportunities. He's disappointed because push came to shove and it was our way or the highway.

Potter leaving last year was a bad sign when it seemed like he was happy here. Could be a financial thing, the owners aren't exactly loose with their money. You all know though, its been going on for years now this is nothing new. They shouldn't sell Rodon or Ayew but they will.

Potters leaving I think was an opportunity to manage in the Premiership.Don't think Leon's leaving was financially linked,( not personally). He also apparently had a very good rapport with Trevor Birch. Somewhere along the line maybe I'll get a hint of what went wrong.

I don't think it was financial. I want to put the blinders on and pretend everything is fine but I can't anymore. I can't support another club. Swansea or nothing. We need to force the owners to sell.

Agreed we need the owners to sell, but, to who? The club is in need of serious investment, someone who is prepared to wait a little while before seeing a return. Chinese investors seem to be prepared to speculate in these situations. Maybe an ideal scenario would be Chinese investment which could tempt M.Laudrup back with a large budget. (Wake me up someone ).

Maybe he just wants a break. He wouldn't be the first and the last one to voluntarily take a break from the game.

“I said I would help because I love the club, always will, but it was always my intention to step back once things had settled down, which it has following the arrival of Steve (Cooper) and Andy (Scott).

“I’ve enjoyed the role and it has given me a real insight into how a football club operates behind the scenes. It’s been a great experience and I’ve learnt a lot from Trevor and Andy; they’ve been a massive help, together with Steve (Cooper) and I would like to thank them for the opportunity

“But the job is 24/7, all-consuming, and now is the time I have to keep the promise to myself and my family to take a break from the game after nearly 30 years."

After all, being locked up for three months during a pandemic doesn't give you a real quality time with your family when counting deaths on TV news is the only thing you hear. I feel, and I am sure the same apply to all of you, like someone has stolen four months of my life.

For me the timing of this is wrong. No prior warning, seems a decision made on the day.and at a time when it would seem his experience would be needed, and I don't feel it's in Leons nature to leave on a whim without a very good reason. Being locked up for three months has happened to us all, and possibly under worse circumstances. For three months, like us all been on lockdown, now when the time has come to do the job he's been paid for he walks. Without a very good reason, it doesn't make sense to me.

I can see both points. Crojack might have a point, Britton has been involved in football since he was what 16? Maybe he learned something during the pandemic. He just wants a holiday. Maybe he's doing the owners a favor and saving them money :ROFLMAO:

The timing is unusual. But then again, he could have had family plans for the summer. Give it a few months I would be surprised if he was done with football and done with Swansea.

Maybe someone can convince Catherine Zeta Jones to buy up the Americans shares.

Groningen let Asoro return to Swansea City - Football Oranje

Here's a bit of news, Gronigen tried to sign Asoro to a permanent deal and then another loan but Swansea rejected them both. 3 goals in 17 appearances with them. We are going to need all the bodies we can get so I welcome him back. You can read more into rejecting the transfer and loan offers, does this mean we're losing depth in the middle next season? **** the ****** Americans if they sell Ayew.

What did Asoro accomplish in 17 games that make us thing he's anymore ready for now or next season than he was when he arrived ... how many seasons ago now.

Defender Daniel Ayala is refusing to play for Middlesborough.

Bristol City has a positive case of the Corona virus but we don't play them until July 18.

If more players are resting positive I wonder if they would have to cancel this season. Between normal fatigue hamstring injuries and positive tests having a lot of players could be all the difference for some clubs. This will be one interesting finish.
