Swansea is the cleanest town in Wales in which to live. :) A recent research study of air pollution graded UK cities in terms of air quality relative to the size of the city. The lower the number the worst the air quality and Cardiff came in as 4th worst in the UK. London was as low as 75: Newport 80, Bridgend 82 and even Port Talbot clocked in at 98. And Swansea? #1 in Wales at 140!!

The prevailing westerly wind blows all of our crap into Cardiff
That reminds me of the song we used to sing down the vetch when I was a lad in the 60s.
To the tune of my bonnie lives over the ocean...

If I had the wings of a sparrow
If I had the arse of a cow
I'd fly over Cardiff tomorrow
And shit on the bastards below.

Any other old chants anyone can remember?

Yesterday, unusually, there wasn’t any wind, a clear sunny day, except for the huge orange pall of smoke hanging over the steel works.
The prevailing west wind usually blows the pollution over Cornelly, Porthcawl and beyond, ironically away from Port Talbot.
The wind very rarely blows easterly, therefore Swansea way is relatively clear.
Seemingly it doesn’t matter about the pollution from the steel works anyway, as long as workers jobs are safe there.
Industrial pollution together with pollution from cars and trucks are killing us and destroying the planet, yet our government and the world at large twiddle their thumbs and do nothing as more and more people suffer with lung disease.
Respiratory diseases are leading causes of death and disability in the world. About 65 million people suffer from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and 3 million die from it each year, making it the third leading cause of death worldwide.

Yes! passing Port Talbot on the M4 even years ago the grey slate roofs were red.
