Heading the ball ...

... unfortunately a diminishing art. And, clearly a cause for concern when not done properly and perhaps even then ... PFA to create dementia taskforce

I wasn't aware that Jeff Astle is now the the poster boy for this. He was WBA's center forward in the '68 FA Cup when they beat Everton.

I used to be a prolific header of the ball in my youth ... perhaps that explains a few things🤪

Seems to me there's a world of difference between heading those monstrously heavy wet leather balls of our youth and the lighter non-absorbing balls of today. Perhaps our willingness to head such rain-soaked balls in our youth indicates that there was a pre-existing condition! o_O 🔨
Yes, remember it well, one of your school tasks in pupil rotation was to dubbing the football, making it waterproof. you were lucky if it lasted half the game on a wet day, always had dubbing at home for your boots (togs) which had toecaps equivalent to steel. you got a kick off them and you knew al about it.

You know ... perhaps this explains all the daft quotes from ex-players on the Football Quotes thread
