This “have to take the opportunity” mantra is nonesense when it comes to the Prem. If there is one thing guaranteed with that league it is the annual turnover in managers. There are always many, many vacancies every year. Every year some newbie coach or two, or three, or four, gets tried out to be spat out onto the junk heap when the silk purse doesn’t materialize from a sow’s year in short order .... because magic is a state of delusion. Wouldn’t a coach like Potter be better served on his resume by showing that he has the ability to take on, stick with, and deliver a project on time and as promised. Wouldn’t that build brand, command demand and excellent compensation. After all, that very ability is what brought Potter to us and out of the Swedish system.
So what is Potter going to deliver with a hodge podge squad that struggled to deliver anything last season and really has no football identity .... what are they known for .... nothing. Potter’s dalliances with system and role changes with us was successful because of the underlying talent .... who the fuck is brighton’s Grimes, or Roberts, or James. Potter will start with the motley crew that he is given that couldn’t have given City a game like us in a million years and struggle to produce a win or two never mind anything resembling a silk purse. He’s going to have to fit his “system” to the players at hand or risk a De Boer at Palace situation. And we all know how that finished ... very short, very un-sweet .... replaced by a re-tread..
