I see that he's retired from football at the early age of 32. I wonder if he'd be interested in a last Swansong with us? (apologies for the pun) This guy is quality having played at the top level for years with big teams and has several international caps to his name. I think his experience would be invaluable to the squad and, being a combative midfielder, would add much needed beef in the middle of the park for us.

Okay, I get that he's not a young player in the mould that Russell wants/likes, but his all-round ability and class would surely benefit the team in general and, in particular, our younger players as a role model. I can think of far worse signings we could make always providing he can prove his fitness and not asking the earth for a salary.

Worth a shot. Do we know how long Joe is going to be out?
Don't know. But, subject to fitness, cost etc, I'd sign Delph anyway. His quality far exceeds anything we've got in the squad and, a season long contract with an option to extend it if he delivers, would be good business. He operates as a midfielder or left back and was with Manchester City for four seasons before spending a further three seasons at Everton earning 20 England caps along the way.

As we all know, Citeh sign only TOP quality players so his pedigree is proven. I understand that he is not that player now but, as the saying goes, class is permanent and he certainly has it. And he certainly possesses more top level experience than Russell Martin, so could pass a lot of that on to him.
