Hamilton has two options. Walk away, or, come back (at least for next season) and kick the shit out of them - prove it was a "fluke" and "fix" by winning 2022 going away (much like he was doing in the last race until the fix was in).
Think a lot of that will depend on what technical advances other teams have made on their cars, Ferrari has been very much a sleeping giant this last season or two.

Just reflecting on how some motorsport champions met their death, or finished their career.
Our Colin McRea, active World Rally Champion when he died in his helicopter crash.
Bertie Fisher active Irish Rally Champion, again a helicopter crash.
Michael Schumacher, F1 champion, not killed but taken from his sport by a freak ski accident.
When you think of what they achieved from behind the wheel, and constantly dicing with death, and to lose it all from something totally irrelevant from their sport seems a bit ironic.

And Graham Hill killed in a private plane crash whilst Bruce McLaren died at Goodwood aged 32 when testing his new Mclaren M8D, not actually racing.

Have been reading heavy rumours that Lewis Hamilton is seriously thinking of quitting F1 and Mercedes is looking at potential replacements with five drivers as possible options:

Stoffel Vandoorne
already at Mercedes as a F1 test driver and an EQ Formula E driver.

Esteban Ocon who we all know about.

Nyck de Vries very similar CV to Vandoorne.

Valtteri Bottas if Mercedes decide to try and reverse the move.

Nico Hulkenberg an experienced F1 performer currently a reserve driver with Aston Martin.

None of this lot are remotely in Hamilton's class so, if he does quit, the FIA will have succeeded in their aim of destroying the Hamilton/Mercedes monopoly. In my opinion this so-called sport will be all the poorer IF Hamilton calls it a day. Either way it won't affect me because I will no longer be watching, along with, it seems, many other people who were also sickened by the blatant corruption of the FIA.

Verstappen, easily the best of the rest, will likely reign with Red Bull for some time to come. But beware, Max, your time will surely come when the FIA decide to remove you as well when they think your time is up and they want to manipulate the next driver and team to #1.

I don't quite agree with this, If teams thought this was the case they would pull out and not waste Millions of Pounds. Manufactures compete for a great deal of reasons, one big one is that it sells them road cars. Also sponsorship would be considered a waste of money. by many companies.
I think Mercedes will still continue to be dominant in F1 with or without Hamilton. Cars make drivers and drivers make cars.
I think Mercedes may live to regret sacking Bottas, as for all his having being forced to play second fiddle to Hamilton still managed to finish third in the driver standings, one place behind Hamilton.
Agreed FIA administration f##ked up in the last race, and probably much to their regret, I don't think we'll ever witness the likes of that again.
It's still a sport where manufacturer competes against manufacturer, and wouldn't allow themselves to be controlled by a panel of biased people.

If manufacturers have the control, then A show of positive intent would be for manufacturers to insist that Massi be removed from his position. Clearly either a biased fuck or totally unable to drive a straight line in the presence of pressure and graft, I don’t see how he could possibly be allowed to continue.

I understand what you say, JF, but I think, sooner or later, the big manfacturers might break away and form their own organisation to run things. They can make their own rules, administrate the sport and keep any profits in-house.

Hope you had a great Xmas, JF.

I would think the FIA has been given the gypsies warning about of any repeats of this nature by manufacturers.
Christmas day was quiet but nice, spent it at the local yacht club with a friend. Hope yours was enjoyable too
