Just read on news now that he is ready to sign a 2 year extension with the Swans .
As I have opined multiple times, he’s not going anywhere. Top clubs took a good look at him a year ago and decided there was at least one element of his game that they didn’t like, or defied the asking price. However, first for Madness and now Duff, he does something for them that makes him a regular. I don’t see it. He’s not busy enough. He’s not hungry enough. He’s not fast enough from a dead stop or flat out to trouble most defenders. For his height he wins little to nothing in the air. He’s not going to bang anybody with his body. When he gets the ball I’m just not on the edge of my seat with anticipation. He’s sufficient … and for me that’s not enough for a forward to be.

for those old enough, do a mental side by side comparison of Piroe and Curt … who’d be the automatic starter at #9. And Curt spent the majority of his career below the prem/1st division, so it’s a reasonable comparison.

I thought you were talking about Grimes and then I read "that's not enough for a forward to be". 😬

There was a study once which said the latest a substitute can come on in a game and expect to influence the result is the 53rd minute. Duff waited until the 81st to start making subs. I wish one manager would have the balls to make half time subs a regular thing. I'd do it as standard. Sends a message to under-performers, spreads the playing time to keep the squad happy, staves off late season fatigue and ruins the other managers half-time team talk. What's not to like?

Very unimpressed. Radio comms said the visitors were the better team and deserved to win. Having signed a new contract what is Grimes seeing that the rest of us aren't? We're not one thing or the other right now. Other teams outpass us and mostly also outwork/outmuscle us. Where is our identity? What football is Duff trying to get us to play? Whatever it is, it ain't working and he needs to sort his shit and get his act together. Some stats:

POSSESSION: 40-60 SHOTS: 7-11 OT: 3-2 CORNERS: 3-8 FOULS: 12-10 CORNERS: 1-1

Less possession; less shots;' less corners; less attacks (as per Crojack's chart on another thread) and, frankly, I'm getting less and less hope by the game. Actually we have a decent squad right now but so far Duff hasn't got the faintest idea how to use them. Lower league manager and it's showing.

It's been 3 games. He's playing half a team of ex-Martinballers who are used to playing very differently, and half a team of newcomers who haven't had chance to settle in their personal lives yet much less on the pitch. It'll take time to see an identity. 3 or 4 pre-season games without the finished squad in terms of transfers isn't enough to do dick. I'm happy to give Duff 12 league games before I'd expect to see a style emerge. I'm sure it will.

As long as we play 3-5-2, I am not optimistic.
I feel like it's inevitable this has to change, though it seems to be the only formation Duff has used in his managerial career so far. It is frustrating that the squad is arguably weakest at centre-back, and having to play 3 of them every game is putting weaker players on the field at the expense of stronger ones who play other positions. Play a back four and there's a spare shirt for another mid or forward, and there are plenty of decent options now.
