I really hope that there's no truth in the following and it's just a piece of gossip to fill column inches. The Sun reports today:

Swansea are struggling to keep Welsh right back Connor Roberts. Roberts, 23, is out of contract in the summer, with no signs that he will extend it. So the Welsh club may sell in January.

If there's any truth in this, are the owners already starting to cash in on our young assets? Potter will be fucking livid if this proves to be the case not to mention we supporters. On the other hand, perhaps the lad might have been quietly tapped up by one of the 'big' clubs who fancy his potential. It's easy for a youngster's head to be turned by the prospect of instant fame and riches.

Whatever the truth of the situation Roberts, imo, would be better served by biding his time and furthering his career and learning process under one of the best managers around at this level. He's young enough to move on in a couple of years when he'd be a much more rounded footballer. I'm hoping that this is just idle gossip because if he does go, the owners' intentions for our club will be crystal clear. If they're not clear enough already.........

We are going to have this cheap speculative journalism all year long. Any one of our youngsters who catch the eye will be touted as available by the press.
As long as someone pulls out the phone lines to Jenkins office we will be ok.
I will not renew my season until after January. If we sell the crown jewels I will not renew. If we keep our kids I will happily renew.

I don't suppose you can really blame the boy. as someone that's progressed through the academy he's seen first hand the atrocious way the club has been handled over the past few years.With a sly conniving chairman,who is now on the profit dividends,not caring about promising players,other than from a money making prospective. Managers hardly capable of managing a Sunday league pub team, and owners who see players as money making assets. This past few months is probably the only time since the Laudrup days that has given him some hope under Potter, but he, like us all knows that Potter has to rely on support from the yanks. Not something anyone of sane mind would rely on.

That used to be the defined career path for lil ol Swansea, and now we cheeky Welsh whippersnappers have been sent back where we belong, it is again.
Train them up under Toshack; if they're good enough, put them in the first team; if they're really good, sell them on. Repeat.
It wasn't till Cameron's dad came that we were able to sideline our core business and buy in talent.
But they were great days, eh? Many thanks Tosh and Malcolm Struel for happy memories.

There isn't any truth in this story. The rumour started on Twitter a couple of days ago.

The 'logic' behind the rumour:

Roberts hasn't sign a new contract yet --> Conclusion: Roberts doesn't want to sign a new contract --> 1 + ? = 5

When a player says he doesn't want to discuss his situation but wants to concentrate on his football, it often doesn't bode well. Might be that the club wants to cash in or Connor's agent has started to play hard ball over wages. Draw your own conclusions.

But Potter was pretty clear when he said that in Roberts case they were close to sign the new contract. "It's matter of commas" - he said.

Probably meant 'comas': the ones Jenkins and the owners fell into when they heard his wage demands.
