Cameron Carter-Vickers

Swans are heavily linked with taking Cameron Carter-Vickers on loan from Spurs. As a Yank and a supporter of our national program, I can tell you he is a big part of our “restructuring” post 2018 World Cup Qualifying debacle. He is one of our top 2 (with Matt Miazga of Chelsea) centre half prospects. Obviously I’m a little biased but I would love for him to come on board for the year.

At 'just' 6ft 1" he is hardly the imposing type of CB that the EFL demands. On the other hand, he just might be a tough cookie who can also play a bit and would gel with Potter's footballing ideals. We shall see..... if he joins us.

So ... who sits on the bench VDH or Rodon if CCV plays or do we now go with 3 at the back .... which I kinda think is Potter's preferred setup

He's a very physical player, he was supposed to be a future CB with the US national team. He's fallen off a little, but he's still part of the future. Biggest knock against him is his passing game. But he'll be very good for Swans.

CCV should be sitting on the bench. Rodon and VDH are among our best players.

Our defence is ok, but we have to improve a) blocking low crosses, and b) marking opposition best players. We conceded almost all goals from low crosses: 1 against Sheffield United, 2 against Leeds United and 1 against Bristol City. Roofe and Pablo are Leeds most dangerous players and we still allowed them to score against us. Weimann is most dangerous Bristol player and we still allowed him to score against us. I hope Potter will sort this out.

The main problem is, exactly like last year, our offence.

We don't create much, we don't shoot enough, we don't shoot enough inside opposition penalty box, we don't press enough, we don't tackle in opposition half, our wingers don't score goals, we get easily dispossessed, we don't cross enough and we have to improve our passing accuracy.

I agree and it’s the single most frustrating thing to watch - I particularly noticed montero constantly pulling up once he’s in the box and McKay just shooting into the area with no player in sight or in mind - I’m not going to fall in entirely with yesterday’s criticism of McKay, or Asoro they’re being asked to do too much - they’re fairly adept at getting two or three passes away from a scoring position then they hoof it to nobody in particular totally depending on Ollie or Fer bringing it through the centre mid from a deflection or wrestling the ball off the other side - that’s why he was knackered and came off injured yesterday....though why Fer didn’t start is a mystery - we do need a skilled lump up front imho as getting it to the area seems to be within their gift
Apart from that we're looking good!!

We've got our lump. When he's fit I reckon he'll cause chaos in this division - unless Idiot & Co sell him to pocket the cash. Thank God his salary is so high because there'll be few takers, particularly when he still has to prove himself after he returns. If he does then the Morons might think twice about selling him.

They don't think twice.
There are two questions, imo.
Can we sell him for at least half what we paid?
Can we replace him for less wages?
If yes to both .........bye bye

We looked good against Leeds, and we created more chances than Sheffield United and Preston. But we were piss poor against Birmingham and Bristol. Why? I don't buy the physicality argument, because Bristol are not a physical team at all. Birmingham are physical, but so are Leeds. And we played our best football this season against Leeds.

And, by the way, on the Championship physicality scale we are somewhere in the middle. The only thing we are in the bottom is fouls. We are least dirtiest team in the entire Championship.

So, what's wrong? Here is my list:
  1. Our fullbacks have to be better at stopping crosses
  2. Better man marking of opposition best players
  3. Better passing accuracy. Especially Olsson and Fulton. They lose the ball in the middle of the pitch, which is dangerous. We need a better left back and better midfielders. Celina is good enough. Why don't we try Maric and Byers? Where is Dhanda? Is he injured?
  4. Better crossing. We don't cross enough, and our crossing accuracy is terrible. Montero is one of the best crossers and dribblers in the Championship and we don't play him enough.
  5. I am not convinced that McKay and Asoro are better wingers than Dyer and Narsingh. I think it's time to bring the latter two in. They are experienced and at this level they can score goals. We need our wingers to start scoring goals.
  6. We tackle enough, but we don't tackle in opposition half, which means that we suck at high pressing. High pressing is the easiest way to create chances and score goals.
  7. We are too defensive and we don't dominate games. We play too much in our own half.

I'm surprised that Potter hasn't raided Ostersund for one or two of their better players. As a team they must at least be as good as our lot having beaten Arsenal at the Emirates. Saw Ken Sema play for Watford today and the guy is built like a brick outhouse and has some skill as well. He only cost a million quid or so and must represent great value - which even we can afford. Wonder what happened to Ghoddos? He looked a decent player and shouldn't cost a fortune if we can get him. He might fancy playing for Potts again.

Perhaps unlike Martinez and Rogers he has some integrity.

£5M ! Spend £5M? Have you gone mad Crojack:D
Therein lies the whole story; the problem with our players if there is one in finding synchronicity and fine tuning the problem with our manager is time to grow in the role - the problem they both have; and by association we have is the owners and the running of our club; you can’t have a football team without sufficient player numbers - ask any kids football coach it really is that simple; and it absolutely demonstrates the fundamental lack of sporting understanding or care our ownership has; and we were delivered unto them by good old contemptible, self-serving home grown corruption.

If as Dylan said we are a lovely ugly town, I’d like to think he was referring to the beauty of the scenery and the well humoured hard working good people; but we have a historical and well developed under-belly of the most deep seated webs of corruption; its almost second nature to us; and there’s your ugly.

On FB stateside jacks last night there was a thread about anti-American jacks on Twitter.
Firstly I would question whether the comments could be attributed to authentic Swans fans; if they are then I’m sorry to my heart about that because whilst we have our fair share of knuckle-draggers it’s not at all representative of who we are; nor should it be who we become.

No the issues lie with our crooked and corrupt locals ‘they’re one of our own’ is I think the chant - and it just so happens these individuals sold us and the dream down the river to some savvy asset strippers who happen to be from the USA; they could just as likely have come from Timbuktu - as long as they matched the morals to participate in a hookey deal which benefitted the few at a cost to the many.

Swansea fans are not ant-American - they’re anti-backstabbing robbers; nationality is irrelevant but the people who suggest otherwise lack the intelligence to see it or the vocabulary to vocalise it.

Just sayin’ like x

Firstly, this is a great post. (y) Swans' fans are NOT anti-American, it just happens that the shysters who bought our club are American. As @Ladygargar says, they could be of ANY nationality and only a pure bred idiot would regard all Americans in the same light.

No, the trouble started with local people whom we regarded as our own. Jenkins, Morgan, Dineen et al are the real architects of our downfall. Jenkins (the Idiot) rightly cops most of the flak on behalf of them all because he was quick enough to bask in the accolades in the good times, which now appear to have been achieved in spite of him and not because of him.

His arrogance in believing that he was experienced and competent enough to fulfil the post of DoF was the crack in the dam. His naevity in listening to the likes of Monk and Williams about the Laudrup situation then compounded and highlighted his shortcomings. Throw in some good old-fashioned greed, add a healthy dose of lies and corruption and you have the unholy mess the club now finds itself in.

I only have a layman's knowledge of both Company law and Criminal law but from my perspective, I am at a total loss to understand how this man and his cohorts haven't yet been formally charged with forgery, deception and worse. It is about time that those of us who are members of the Trust, start exerting pressure on them and demanding some positive action before it is too late. Time dilutes and diminishes memory of both fact and detail and the longer this is allowed to drag on, the less chance there will be of a positive outcome to save our club from what, in my opinion, is a bunch of unprincipled crooks hell bent on stealing every penny they can. And they don't seem to mind in the least that our Swans will be destroyed whilst they are doing it.
