British football clubs owe approx. £3,5 billion to banks and owners.

Swansea are doing well, but many Championship clubs are in deep s***.

Everton's owner funds the club via shares (invested approx. £150 m) so Everton are not included.

Spurs should be higher in this table because they've financed their new stadium through bank loans.

But what are these borrowings ... are they factored receivables on player transfers and centralized media revenue to expected cash flows or are they other types of notes. This makes a big difference. Borrowing to fund development of a fixed asset or similar cap ex is completely different from factoring a receivable.

I would guess a fair proportion is in loans from the owners. Like "loans" to my children, which I don't expect or want to be repaid.

Obviously all kinds of borrowings. From funding players' transfers to investing in new stadiums and training facilities. Also urgent need for cash.

I doubt it, there are a couple of owners who are real supporters and don't care, but the vast majority are owners who are investors and want to earn money. Manchester United owners are known for extracting huge amounts of money out of the club.

Chelsea, Leicester and Cardiff all have what I would call fan owners. Rumour has it Ed Sheeran might be joining their ranks by buying Ipswich.
