Our football won't improve until Martin has gone. His safety-first, possession football has long been worked out by his rival, smarter managers. We all know they set out to contain before taking advantage of a defensive slip to score. Today was another example where yet another mistake saw an unmarked man netting at the far post. THIS IS BASIC FOOTBALL, MR MARTIN!!!!!! Have you not coached it? Andy Robinson said that this should NEVER happen. But, time and again, we see it happening along with many other examples of schoolboy defending.
Any manager worth his salt would have worked hard on this and stopped it many games ago. If work has been put in then the lessons have not been learned. Are our players that bad? That stupid? I suspect that this is a combination of bad pupils and equally bad teachers. In other words, sub-standard players and sub-standard coaches. We don't want either at our club.
For pity's sake, Winter, swallow your pride and get a proper coach in to weed out the dross then properly coach those who remain. I suggest, again, that the club should appoint Cameron Toshack who should be even better now given his, admittedly short, stint in the Premier League. He was a resounding success with the Unders - in fact the VERY BEST Unders coach in the country given his League and Cup double with us.
Now CT might not achieve the success I hope for. There are no guarantees in football. But I think he deserves the shot he was robbed of before. And I certainly don't think he'd do any worse than Russell Martin.
