It is with much regret I've learned of the passing of Barrie. I spent a full season with him in the Swansea School Boys team, and became good friends,he was a little younger than me, his first season being my last. He was a pupil of St Davids school. He went on to have quite an outstanding football career, think he had 30 international caps. Signed for Cardiff from school, played over 200 games for them. Came back to the Vetch in the early Seventies for a couple of seasons to completing the entire family playing for the Swans, His father Billy played over 400 games, and his two elder brothers were signed by the Swans. He also went on to complete another family tradition by opening a newsagents after retiring, and that was the last time I spoke to him, about 2006/7.Rest In Peace Barrie.

Very sad to hear this. Barrie was a client of mine and we did stock audits at his newsagents in Brynymor Road as well as similar work for other members of his family. Had many a chat about football with Barrie and had the pleasure of playing with/against him in a number of charity and friendly matches. Needless to say his class shone like a beacon. I found him a quiet, likeable man and greatly regret his passing. RIP, Barrie.
