Liverpool

Tonight we witnessed a historic victory by Liverpool. A come back of all comebacks with two of their top forwards unable to play. Barca were defeated by brilliant goals, performance beyond their years by young players and, not to diminish the contributions for all of the other players, performances by Fabinho and Mane that were controlling for 90 minutes. In fact, if not for a lack of finishing in the first leg and some majesty and magic by Messi the defeat in aggregate could have been staggering.

One other thing we witnessed tonight ... in the final minutes of the match, when one goal would yet have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, and with Barca camped around the 'Pool box, Messi was walking. Not the level of engagement, desire, and leadership I expect from a player of his stature. Instead of digging deep, hunting and seeking the ball to try to make a difference, for all practical purposes he capitulated.

We have been to Anfield and we have won, on multiple occasions. Barca have not, they were mullered. We can take that into next season.

Thoughts?

I watched the game and had a privilege to listen to Michael Laudrup who was the commentator :).

Determination and passion is what I love about Klopp. Three times in the Champions League finals with UNDERDOGS is an incredible achievement. And I really hope he wins it this time. If anyone deserves it, he does.

Yes, remarkable result. They had two hurdles to overcome, firstly keeping a clean sheet was essential, one goal from Barca would have had them needing five, then to overcome the three goal deficit, which they did brilliantly on both counts.
Suarez made a pre match comment, "We score and Liverpool need 5,and we're going to get at least one...…….Agreed. (Think he bit off more than he could chew this time.)

My three fav EPL managers all involved in the final throes of the season - Pep, Klopp and Poch. Think I'd have to go with Jurgen to lift the CL after last night's deserved great result with Pep lifting the League and FA Cup double. Unfortunately this could mean Poch missing out but I'm sure he's going to win a trophy (or two) very soon, Levy having promised him a decent transfer kitty.

Poch will forever come close and win nothing.... He is at Spurs!
His spending power is but a small fraction of what Liverpool and Citeh fork out every season. Levy couldn't compete whilst the new WHL was being built but now it is and it's raking in money every week. Levy has promised to release the purse strings and, if he does, Poch will certainly give the other two more than a headache. Whilst Pool and Citeh strengthened last season, I think Spurs spent very little, if anything, on improving their own squad. When they have something like parity on spending, I think Spurs will become a serious threat instead of being the bridesmaid every season.

Via Sport. I think it's part of the Sky group.

Laudrup's main points:

1. Impressed with Klopp's work at Liverpool. He talked about how Klopp gradually built a team thay suits his style of play. Spot on signings.

2. Liverpool's fitness, tackling and running at this stage, after a hard, title chasing season. Barcelona physically overmatched and bullied in both legs. And all of this done with incredible pace.

3. Praised Liverpool attacking full-backs, together they have almost 30 assists this season. One of them signed from Hull for £8 m and another one 19 years old academy product.

4. Mentality. Never give up. Three days ago Kompany's late stunner was a huge blow to Liverpool's title hopes; they were 3:0 down against Barcelona with Messi on fire; they were without Salah and Firmino, and still...Many other teams would've given up.

5. He also talked about the importance of high pressing and how being brave is the best way of playing against superior teams. Praised Ajax who, like Liverpool, press high on the pitch.
