Key Player
Peach of a free kick by Cullen
Judging by today's match we may use a back 4, Darling and Cabango can do the job. There's much more goal scoring threat than we've had in years. Be bold and 3 up front, Obafemi, Piroe and Whittaker/Cullen. If Darling can pick out passes like he does in the highlight reels they don't need to stick to the patient buildup script.I just hope Martin will stop playing Naughton in the middle of the back three. Naughton should be playing as a wing-back or even better as a full back in a 4-x-x-x formation.
It's a tough one, is key player the same as best player. Allen will be asked to play a number of positions.Could be Piroe, Oba, Harry Darling or, hopefully, Joe.
As always the key (most important) man in every football team is the manager. If Martin fails to see what was wrong last season then no key player can correct that. We simply have toWho would you say is our key man this season?
Agree on all of these points. I'd like to see improvement on fitness. We may have to be a top scoring team to get wins.As always the key (most important) man in every football team is the manager. If Martin fails to see what was wrong last season than no key player can correct that. We simply have to
- get rid of the risky play from the back when we are under pressure
- cut out the number of backward and sideways passes
- start blocking crosses (we were awful at doing that last season)
- move back our back line at least 10 yards because our centre-backs and defensive/central midfielders lack pace
- play either 4 at the back or 3 at the back in a tighter formation (not forcing our centre-backs to play as full-backs)
- play more direct football, which means more ball carries through the middle
- cross and shoot much more than we did last season
- make more professional fouls when we lose the ball and the opposition counter-attacks
- press as a team much more than we did last season
- play Benda instead of Fisher, or sign an excellent goalkeeper, because a goalkeeper is the second most important man in any team
Surely we can’t have any fitness complaints with a full pre-season?Agree on all of these points. I'd like to see improvement on fitness. We may have to be a top scoring team to get wins.
We could all learn a thing or 2 from me, ( but not much more than that)Surely we can’t have any fitness complaints with a full pre-season?
In my experience the win is usually awarded to the top scoring team. Sorry @KVetch , I couldn’t resist
Fulton fits, Martin doesn't.I don't understand why we would let go of Fulton. We're thin, injuries happen, he has experience. Makes no sense selling him cheap to a rival. I find it hard to believe he doesn't fit into the squad.
